A recent verification exercise carried out by Imo State Government to ascertain the real government workers in various 27 Local Government Areas in the state has exposed about 1700 ghost workers in the system.
The State Governor Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha disclosed this during an anointing service at the Government House Victory Chapel.
Imo State Governor who was highly displeased about the menace of ghost workers condemned those behind the ugly activities and admonished them to have a change of attitude.
He explained that such exercise will be extended to schools, ministries, departments and agencies of government under the Civil Service System so as to sanitize the system.
The state number one citizen lamented that the activities of ghost workers have badly affected the system, particularly; in the area of payment of workers’ salaries and quality service delivery.
Governor Okorocha during the church service reiterated his determination to complete all the ongoing projects started by his administration and his intention to embark on new appointments and women empowerment programmes.
Commenting on his Urban Renewal Programme, Road Constructions and other projects, he made it clear that his efforts are aimed at re-positioning the state for better future.
High point of the occasion was special prayers for the state led by the Governor, his wife Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha and other anointed men of God.
