Okorocha champions Nigerian unity through cultural orientation

Owerri the capital of Imo State was agog during the weekend with presence of prominent traditional rulers in the country as the state held its maiden edition of OzuruImo New Yam Festival with the theme
Promoting National Unity Through Cultural Orientation. Speaking at the event in Owerri, the state governor, Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha, said he is always keen to consolidate the unity of
the country, adding that the presence of prominent Nigerians and notable Paramount rulers have dramatized his passion to promote unity in Nigeria.
Governor Okororcha, explained that theme of the Imo State New Yam Festival was carefully selected and the event was specially organized to kick start the language of unity in Nigeria and to inform the world that Nigeria is one, `our focus should be on things that unite us as a
nation and not on Boko Haram and IPOB. The governor totally condemned the activities of Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) under the leadership of Nnamdi Kanu and stated that no reasonable Igbo man will support the secession or division of the country. He further maintained that every well meaning Igbo man has condemned IPOB in all ramifications, ` Igbo business men have real estates and other valuable assets outside Igbo land than in Igbo land, a man that wants to go for secession cannot build mansions in Lagos, Plateau, Kano, Abuja and the rest of the states`. Imo State Governor who also functions as Chairman Progressives Governors Forum condemned generalization of the activities of IPOB and
their leadership, he also suggested that the activities of IPOB should be seen as the project of Nnamdi Kanu and his actions should be singled out as an action of an individual. His words: we can see the Ooni of Ife and the Chairman of Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Imo, His Royal Majesty Eze Samuel Ohiri sitting side by side, for our sons and daughters, it gives them a sense of unity wherever they are, I want to appeal to wherever they are, I want to appeal to all to please remain calm, we are one and only one nation, an injury to one is an injury to all In his speech at the occasion the Ooni of Ife, His Royal Majesty Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, scored Governor Okorocha high for his numerous achievements, particularly in the area of infrastructure and free education, stating that he was highly excited at the level of togetherness, brotherly love and peaceful coexistence of different tribes in Imo state, I am feeling our togetherness here in Imo State, is high time we know that we are cut out from same cloth, it is one big family`, he said He maintained that he doest joke with the unity of the country because he is passionate about it. He said `Nigeria is a very unique nation with different culture, tradition and heritage, our diversity is our greatest strength, we shouldn’t write it off like that, we should look beyond our different backgrounds and look at how we can close the dotted lines. Another prominent Traditional Ruler in the country who spoke at the occasion was the Chairman of the Cross River State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Majesty Etimyin Etim Okon Edet, he described Governor Okorocha as an advocate of peace and urged all the traditional rulers to always preach the gospel of peace and unity. Adding his voice the Chairman Imo State council Of Traditional Rulers, Eze Sameul Ohiri described the theme of the event as timely, designed to strengthen the unity of Nigeria through cultural orientation and urged both the political and traditional institution to always be in
the frontline of promoting peace in the country. It was a two days event which started at the palace of Eze Imo at Mbari Street with speeches from notable paramount rulers in the country, while the second day was for cultural carnival; all the autonomous communities came with their cultural troops to showcase their cultural identity.

No room for hate speech, disintegration as Northern Governors storm Imo for peace

A delegation of Northern Governors of Nigeria have stormed Imo State under the leadership of the chairman of Northern Governors Forum, His Excellency Governor Kasim Shetima of Boronu State on a peace mission orchestrated to quickly arrest obvious tension and crises created by the activities of secession group, Independent People of Biafra, IPOB.
Welcoming the governors from the North, Imo State Governor Owelle Anayo Okorocha, who spoke at the Government House Owerri, described
them as brothers and members of one family who came in search of peace.
His words: `I think Nigeria is passing through difficult time, we must see it as a trial moment that will bring us triumph. Your visit is a reminder to all of us that we are one blood and one flesh, despite the activities of those who have offered themselves to be used as instruments in the hands of the devil`. He maintained that peace is so too expensive and must be pursued by all men at all cost, adding that he respects those who are so powerful and determined to pursue peace without considering the price or sacrifices they need to make.
Imo State Governor seized the opportunity to admonish the political leaders in Nigeria and the masses to see their tribal differences and large population of the country as their strength, he also stressed the need for leaders to show more solidarity and dramatize love and unity for the country. The leader of the delegation and chairman of Northern Governors Forum, Shetima, expressed satisfaction at the quality of leadership exhibited by Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and the peaceful atmosphere he created in the state, saying; `he is a quintessential Nigerian and we are proud of him`. He made it clear that they came as bridge builders to promote peace, unity and cohesion, adding that justice, peace and equity should be the hall mark of leadership. He equally scored the South East Governors high for their proactive actions to prevent the crises caused by the activities of IPOB from escalation. The governors of Kebi, Sokoto, Kastina and Plateau accompanied the Chairman of Northern Governors Forum to the visit. In their separate speeches they stressed the need to build a united and peaceful Nigeria where every citizen of the country can live in harmony with their brothers and sisters irrespective of religious, tribal or political differences. In a closing remark, the Speaker Imo State House of Assembly Rt Hon. Acho Ihim, who was overwhelmed by the atmosphere of togetherness created by the visit of Northern Governors called for an end of the Operation Python Dance by Nigerian Army in Abia State. The event attracted distinguished personalities from Imo State and beyond, including the leadership of Hausa community in Imo State and their members.
