Monkey Pox: Imo is in God’s hands – Okorocha

…debunks claims of virus in the state
Because Imo State is in the hands of God, the Monkey Pox virus will never come close.
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State stated this in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo where he debunked claims that the virus was in the state.
The virus which started from Bayelsa State has spread to six other states viz a viz: Rivers, Ekiti, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Ogun and Cross River.
Okorocha said, “The attention of the Imo State government has been drawn to the wicked and unfounded rumor being spread by the wicked ones over the monkey pox virus which created undue anxiety in Owerri, the state capital especially among some parents, on Wednesday, October 11, 2017.
“The state government wants to inform Imo people in particular and the general public that the monkey pox virus is not in Imo and will never be in Imo in Jesus Name.
“The federal Government has named few states that have had one or two cases and the states that should be monitored closely and Imo State is not among any of the groups. So these wicked rumor mongers in the state will surely reap the ugly fruits of their ugly acts.
“Again, no child or pupil or student has been immunized or is being immunized as part of the rumour had carried, because there is no need for such action.
“However, the government is on the alert and will take the necessary action if the need arises and Imo people will duly be informed. But for now, there is no cause for any alarm. Imo is in the hands of God.”

Governor Rochas Okorocha has said that the Country is waxing strong inspite of certain Challenges, and noted that with the sound policies of the current administration, such challenges will soon be things of the past.

The governor said, this is not the period or time to discuss the country’s shortcomings but a time to discuss the successes of the Country at 57 and what must be done to move the nation forward.

He remarked that all that the nation needs to persevere at the moment is unity of purpose among Nigerians.

He said, “In Imo State, we have tried to contribute our quota by providing the much needed dividends of democracy in all we have promised our great people of Imo State. It is a fact that today Imo state has witnessed unprecedented level of development in all dimensions. Worthy to mention is the free education at all levels from primary, secondary to University in this State. Our landscape has changed for good and our city looking better for it”.

Governor Okorocha further stated that though we are not there yet, but we are laying the basic foundation upon which other subsequent governments must build on, and enjoined Nigerians to pray for the nation and her leaders especially for President Muhammadu Buhari.

The governor explained that today’s leaders will soon hand over the nation to the younger ones and where they have failed as their parents, the younger ones cannot afford to fail, but must stand firm not to repeat the mistakes of their fathers, adding that Nigeria is on the path of greatness.
