The N-Power programme introduced by President Muhammadu Buhari for unemployed Nigerians is gradually making progress in Imo State, as beneficiaries took turns on Tuesday 7th February, to testify about the reality of the programme in the state.

Some of the beneficiaries interviewed during a verification exercise organized at Imo International Convention Centre (IICC) Owerri, testified that they have received their December stipend.

The verification exercise was organized to address challenges due to irregularities in Name, Bank Verification Number (BVN) and other errors committed during the online registration of the programme.

A graduate of Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) Ezeocha John and Emelu Kizito, were among those who revealed to Pressmen that their December stipend of N30,000 have been paid and they were expectant of the January stipend.

In her speech, Deputy Chief of Staff Domestic and Internal Affairs, Honourable Mrs Ogechi Ololo, said the essence of the exercise was to verify the beneficiaries for further deployment to their places of primary assignment.

The Deputy Chief of Staff assured the beneficiaries of their preparedness to ensure that all their problems are solved and encouraged them not to lose hope.

According to her “everything went well, Federal Government is hiring about 13000 Imo citizens. So far, about 3,385 Imo citizens have been verified. Many may think the programme is not real, but it’s real, it’s a great opportunity for the youths.”

Lending her voice, the Deputy Chief of Staff External Affairs Mrs Mma Nzeribe-Micheals described the scheme as a wonderful package, designed to employ about 500,000 Nigerian graduates, stating that it is a promise made and fulfilled by President Muhammadu Buhari.

It was a well attended event by the beneficiaries and the officials took time to attend to them in a humane, peaceful and friendly manner.

Igbo presidency: VON DG, Osita Okechukwu backs Okorocha

The Director-General, Voice of Nigeria, Mr. Osita Okechukwu has aligned himself with Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha that Nigeria President of Igbo extraction would only be possible by 2023.

Okorocha had declared that “What I do know is that Ndigbo should talk about President after President Muhammadu Buhari.

Addressing party faithful at the registration and revalidation center of All Progressives Congress (APC), Iwollo Oghe, Ezeagu Local Government Area, Enugu State, Okechukwu commended Okorocha for taking the position‎.

“My dear brothers and sisters, I commend His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha for his historical pronouncement that we should support President Buhari and wait for 2023.

“He was not sentimental and parochial; he looked dispassionately on the political terrain and realities on the ground. I have never seen Owelle think as deep and wax strategic as he did for our people,” Okechukwu declared.

He added that “Owelle’s speech is very timely, it is a counter poise to the statement made by our revered elder statesman and ex-president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, who sounded more like an agent provocateur.

“He is neither a member of the APC nor PDP or to the best of my knowledge any other political party of note, yet he arrogates himself the powers to determine who gets what, when and how.”

Going further Okechukwu said, I share the view that, “in political domain there is the law with its legal teeth and the convention with its moral weight, the political convention today in Nigeria which the ex-president is a prime beneficiary states – rotation of President – South 8 years and North 8 years – we stand by that convention.

“Since our entry into the Fourth Republic in 1999, we supported Obasanjo, the South West by extension, we supported Jonathan, South South by extension, now that Ndigbo has resolved to support Buhari, we are hopeful of 2023.

“This is why we are appealing to IPOB, MASSOB and Ohaneze Ndigbo to join us and reckon the truism that no one ethnic nationality can do it alone. Equity, justice and fair play is on our side in 2023.

“Luckily President Buhari is laying a solid foundation and infrastructural base for prosperity and progress of our fatherland.”

When asked about Buhari’s age and rumoured sickness, Okechukwu retorted, “there is a local parlance in my place which says that, many a time women maybe waiting for the old dry tree to fall for their firewood and to their dismay the young luxuriant tree falls. Mr President is hale and hearty and most importantly our life is in Almighty God’s hand.”
