SIR GEORGE ECHE

 

Sir George Eche was born into the family of renowned community leader and solider, Mr. Gilbert Eche of Umuowa-Oma Obiangwu in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State.

He had his primary education at Central School (Army Children School) Ezamgbo in Ebonyi State and his secondary education at Obube  Secondary School Ulakwo Owerri North Imo state WAEC (Division 1). He proceeded to Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri where he obtained he made Upper Credit in Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and Distinction in Higher National Diploma (HND).

Sir George Eche went to further his education by enrolling into Imo State University Owerri where he obtained a Masters Degree in Business Administration majoring in Banking and Finance.

He also attended several World Bank Financial Management courses from 2004, BVS Computer and Communications Limited, Budget Management at University of Ibadan.

  • At Duke University North Carolina USA he studied Budgeting and Financial Management.
  • At Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) COURSE 4th -5th, he studied Public Enterprises Financial Management.
  • He also attended Crown Agents London United Kingdom on Strategic and Financial Planning.

Sir George Eche was employed into the Civil Service as a Higher Executive Officer (Accounts) and rose to the exalted position of Permanent Secretary in October, 2010.

In 2011, Sir Eche was the Accountant-General of Imo State, a position he held till March 2014.

Sir Eche is a member of several professional bodies to include;

*Fellow-Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN)

*Fellow-Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN)

*Fellow-Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Nigeria (ICMA)

He is currently the Secretary to the Government of Imo State. Prior to this, he was the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Works and later Ministry of Finance.

All positions held by Sir George Eche were crowned with monumental achievements and meritorious service.

As a Knight of the Catholic Church (St John International), he is happily married to Mrs. Veronica Eche-George. The marriage is blessed with six children.

He loves playing tennis and football.
