Imo State Governor, Anayo Rochas Okorocha, has called on the people of South East zone to massively join the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that it would be in their overall interest to fully identify with the party as well as drum undiluted support for President Mohammed Buhari-led Federal Government.

The governor made the call during a Southeast Stakeholders Meeting of APC held at Imo International Convention Centre (IICC) Owerri.

He urged those who want to join the party, not to cause confusion, but should do so with sincerity of heart, in order to build a stronger and better APC.

“We can get everyone appointment if there is unity”, Okorocha said.

Okorocha who is the Chairman of Progressive Governors’ Forum explained that it was time to build a united Igbo race and identify with President Mohammed Buhari for the 8 eight years he is going to lead the nation, adding that APC is the right party for the Igbo tribe and the only party that can guarantee Igbo presidency.

Imo State Governor called on former President of the Senate, Senator Ken Nnamani to come and lead APC in Southeast Zone, adding that now is the time to have a personality of repute who can provide leadership and direction for Ndi Igbo in the party

Said the governor: “I decline from the leadership of Ndi-Igbo in APC. With the presence of Ken Nnamani the question of who is the National Leader of APC in Southeast has been answered, Ken Nnamani is the leader. Let him lead us so that I can pay more attention to governance and provision of dividends of democracy for Imo people.

Okorocha suggested that the former senate president should work with other notable Igbo leaders like Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu and Jim Nwobodo to direct Igbo tribe towards a favourable political direction.

Adding his voice in support of Imo State Governor, Senator Nnamani said “if Okorocha has realized that he needs more hands, he  deserves commendations, Igbos need more of their representatives at the national leadership of APC, the National Assembly  and other strategic positions where critical decisions are made.`

According to the former Senate President, Ndi-Igbo should think ahead and play politics of ideas devoid of abusive words, pointing out that how the Yoruba tribe voted in 2015 presidential election should be an eye opener as they voted both sides unlike the Southeast Zone that put their eggs in one basket.

Observing that the Southeast zone did not have what it takes to play opposition party, he warned that they should not go for handouts, saying “I am not of the view that everybody should be in APC; but those who have seen the need should do so, some of us going into APC are not doing so because of hunger, but in the general interest of the Igbo people.

All the speakers at the meeting made clarion call for a united Igbo race with focus and well defined political direction, they also scored Governor Okorocha  high for his vision to identify with APC at its formative stage when the road was rough and tough.

The meeting attracted personalities like Sir Emeka Offor, Chief Felix Idiga, Senator Osita Izunaso who is the National Organizing Secretary of APC, Chief Emeka Erukwu Southeast zonal Chairman of APC, Senator Ifeanyi  Ararume, Prince Eze Madumere, Honourable Mrs Ogechi Ololo, Speaker Imo State House of Assembly Rt Hon.
